Q. Do I have to wear larger sized jeans?
A. No, normally your regular jeans and pants fit over the pants easily. Unless you wear skin-tight jeans you'll find your own jeans fit right over. For women who wear tighter fit jeans, often times they will fit if there is enough lycra in the jeans.
Q. Do I have to use all the armor?
A. Our pants come with knee/shin, hip, thigh and tailbone armor. You can remove any of the armor to suit your own comfort and priorities. Find a setup that suits your normal riding.
Q. Can I get the pants with a fly?
A. We do offer a fly, by request, for all sizes of our All Season Lycra Adventure Pants. To order with a fly please specify "with fly" in the "Additional Info" section during checkout.
Q. What if I crash - do I have to throw the armor away?
A. No, all the Bohn armor is multi-use, so as long as there is no physical damage, you are good to reuse it. If you have any concerns feel free to call us. To order a new shell, simply go to the ordering section on our website and place an order for a shell in your size.
Q. Can I get a spare shell of pants or shirt?
A. Yes, we offer shells (without armor) in all of our products. Many times people will purchase one system, for example the CoolAir pants and shirt, and get the Airtex Shirt and Adventure pants shells to go with it for all weather riding. What is great is our armor will fit into any of the pants and shirts.
Q. I've lost one of the armor sections, can I replace it?
A. Yes, it's easy to replace what you need here: Bohn Body Armor Components
A. Yes, absolutely! We sell a lot to women and they fit well. We've lots of testimonials from women, including some crashes! Use the sizing guide specs to determine your proper fit.
Q. My legs are pretty plump!
A. The lycra is very elastic and comfortably expands and contracts to hold the armor close to your body. They fit everyone. Use the sizing guide specs to determine your proper fit.
Q. Are your products soft?
A. We only use the softest Lycra and Mesh we can find. Comfort is king when you are on a long ride especially wearing something under your own clothing. What is great is we offer a 90 trial. Order and see for yourself how soft and comfortable our products are.
Q. Is your Bodyguard System made for impact or abrasion?
A. If you are thinking of protection when crashing - there are going to be two types of damage to your body to consider - abrasion and impact protection. Abrasion protection, like Kevlar Jeans for instance, is good at protecting you from gravel rash if you are sliding down the road - and is what people often first think of when protecting themselves.
But the Bohn approach is to treat Impact Protection as the priority - as that is what causes major injuries - to the 'corners' of your body - knees, hips etc. AND the hardest to repair - rashes heal, bones take much longer.
Bone injuries are what puts you in the hospital, cost you lots of money, and keeps you off work. So we aim to primarily protect you for impact.
Now, with the Bohn System, you also get abrasion protection on those 'corners' because of the armor, (that's the parts that are exposed) - and we have never heard of anyone grinding through the armor....because we tend to bounce and slide! Read some of our testimonials and you will see what people have reported.
Q. I ride in the heat of the summer, which one of your systems should I choose?
A. We are in Northern California, and I know what it's like to ride when it's over 100F which it is consistently through July and August.
Our Cool-Air - Summer Riding protection is the best for that super hot or super muggy riding. Wear them under jeans and a t-shirt.
Our Adventure series with our Adventure pants and AirTex shirts are also quite cool and great for all-weather riding - they are our most popular product for over 20 years. We have plenty of solutions to fit your riding needs. What is great is you can buy one system and then get shells for another type of weather - it is totally versatile.
Q. Can I use them for Skiing?
A. Of course! We sell quite a lot for all winter sports. In fact skiers, snowboarders, street hockey and soccer teams are among the many additional uses for our products. In December we will be launching our new Bohn Sports Armor website highlighting the different sports uses for our products.
Q. Do you have children's sizes?
A. We have sizes from XXS to XXXL, but at this point we do not have dedicated children's sizes.
Q. I am big - can you do custom fitting?
A. At this point we cannot provide custom tailoring for the Bodyguard Shirts and Pants. Our sizing chart is really good at fitting most people - remember it's not meant to fit like dress shirt and pants, its a system of positioning armor in the right place and holding it there snugly.
Q. Your testimonials are wild - are they real?
A. Every word is from a real customer report that has been sent to us.
Q. I ride on the back of my husband's bike - do I need protection?
A. We repeatedly hear from our customers that peace of mind is just as important as the physical protection you wear. So if you are feeling vulnerable, that is a good reason in itself to get protected. And yes passengers are just as vulnerable in a crash as the rider up front!
Q. Can I wear the Adventure Pants with Draggin or other Kevlar jeans?
A. That's a very good combination! Many people do just that - and it's much better than having armor inside Kevlar jeans that is loose and will slip around in a crash.
Just one point though, the Kevlar material does not easily pass air, and the only time we hear of the Adventure Pants being hot, is when they have Kevlar pants on top - this is not a problem though in most of the country, most of the year.
A. Unfortunately speed does not cause all crashes. Cars and trucks pulling out, diesel and gravel on the road and other random events make motorcyclists, even veteran riders, very vulnerable when things go wrong.
